SEATTLE – Drivers heading from Interstate 5 to eastbound Interstate 90 should plan for a slightly longer trip Thursday night, June 15, as contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation and Sound Transit place permanent striping and remove an overhead sign structure.

Closure details

  • 9 p.m.: crews will close the ramp from southbound Rainier Avenue to eastbound I-90 and begin closing lanes on eastbound I-90 between I-5 and the Mount Baker Tunnel.
  • 10 p.m.: crews will close the ramp from northbound I-5 to eastbound I-90
  • 11 p.m.: crews will close the ramp from southbound I-5 to eastbound I-90. Up to three lanes of I-90 will be closed while crews place permanent striping. The striping work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.

Eastbound I-90 rolling slowdown

At approximately 1 a.m. Friday, June 16, crews will perform a rolling slowdown on eastbound I-90 between I-5 and the Mount Baker Tunnel. The rolling slowdown will allow crews to safely remove an overhead sign structure near Rainier Avenue. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes while that work occurs.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, June 16.

Drivers should follow the signed detours and use Fourth Avenue South to access eastbound I-90 during the closure.
