Fare Game: How to pay for transit during FIFA World Cup ‘26

Publish Date

Seattle is gearing up to host the world this summer. While the first match is still two months away, now is the perfect time to plan your journey. Sound Transit is the smartest way to reach Seattle Stadium and other tournament venues. In turn, we want to help you prepare now so you can skip the lines and focus on the match.

We’re providing new options and taking several additional steps to make paying your fare simpler than ever. Here is how to ride like a pro.

Use Tap to Pay

The fastest way to board is by using Tap to Pay. You can pay your fare by tapping your contactless credit card, debit card, or mobile wallet (such as Apple Pay or Google Pay) on the yellow ORCA card readers before you board trains or as you enter buses. Tapping a contactless card for payment will provide a two-hour transfer window, which works between agencies.

Remember: One tap equals one person. Each rider needs their own payment method. If you are traveling with a family or group, you cannot share a single card for multiple taps.

Unlock the region with a three-day transit pass

Launching this June, our special three-day ORCA pass is the ultimate tournament companion. For $18 (plus $3 card purchase fee), you get unlimited rides for three consecutive days across our regional network*. You can buy this pass when you arrive at SeaTac/Airport Station.

This pass is valid for:

  • Sound Transit: Link light rail, Sounder trains, and ST Express buses.
  • Partner Agencies: King County Metro (buses, water taxi, and Seattle streetcar), Community Transit, Pierce Transit, Everett Transit, and Kitsap Transit.

Remember - youth ride free

Traveling with young fans? In our region, everyone 18 years old and under rides for free on most regional buses, trains, and ferries. Youth do not need a pass or a card to board, making it easier than ever for families to get to the stadium together.

Traveling as a group? Use Transit GO

If you are managing fares for a large group on one device, download the Transit GO Ticket app. It allows you to buy and activate multiple mobile tickets at once, so your whole squad is ready to go the moment the train arrives.

Come to the stadium three hours before kick-off to beat the rush and explore the surrounding neighborhoods. We are ready to host the world—see you on board!

*Regional day passes are valid on all ORCA services, except King County Metro Access vans, Kitsap Transit Fast Ferries, or Washington State Ferries. Covers unlimited rides up to $3 in fare value. Additional E-purse funds are required if you take trips with fares higher than $3, like the Seattle Center Monorail. The pass activates on your first trip after purchasing and expires at 3 a.m. three consecutive days later. Not available for autoload. Must be used within one year of purchase.
