Sound Transit hosting online open house about Bus Rapid Transit on I-405

Members of the public can learn about project refinements, provide feedback on station design and access to future Stride BRT stations

Publish Date

Sound Transit is hosting an online open house where members of the public can learn about refinements made to the I-405 bus rapid transit (BRT) project as planning has progressed. Participants can also comment on station amenities and shelters, and ways to reach the future stations on foot or by bicycle.

Starting in 2024, Stride BRT service on I-405 will provide fast, frequent and reliable transit service on I-5, I-405 and SR 518 with two lines, Lynnwood to Bellevue and Burien to Bellevue. Service will include a new transit center in South Renton; 11 Stride BRT stations; added parking at three stations; and connections to Link Light rail at Lynnwood, Bellevue and Tukwila, as well as connections to local transit service and the SR 522/NE 145th BRT.

  • Participants in the online open house can provide input on:
  • Potential amenities and improvements at BRT stations and on Stride buses.
  • Ways to access BRT stations.
  • Biking facilities and traveling by bike.
  • The updated BRT shelter design.

From 2018 to early 2019, Sound Transit evaluated and refined the I-405 representative project based on technical analysis and stakeholder feedback. Refinements included roadway modifications, station-specific adjustments and additional transit-priority improvements. In March 2019, the Sound Transit Board of Directors advanced the refined project into the conceptual engineering and environmental review phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023.
