Weekend full closure of Bellevue Way Southeast and ramps to/from Bellevue Way Southeast: Jan. 26-27

In order to install new storm drain line under Bellevue Way Southeast and set precast concrete girders adjacent to Bellevue Way Southeast, Sound Transit's contractor plans to close all lanes of Bellevue Way Southeast from 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26th through 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27th.

What

  1. All ramps between Bellevue Way Southeast and I-90 will be closed. Vehicle access and parking at the Winters House, Blueberry Farm Sweyolocken Boat launch will not be available during the closure.
  2. All lanes of Bellevue Way Southeast between the 'Y' at 112th Avenue Southeast and I-90 will be closed. Local access will be maintained to all residential driveways along Bellevue Way Southeast. Emergency access will be maintained. 
  3. The sidewalk on Bellevue Way Southeast in this area is closed; people biking and walking should seek alternate routes.
  4. Bus stops on Bellevue Way Southeast, south of the 'Y' at 112th Avenue Southeast will be closed and riders will need to use alternate stops located on Bellevue Way Southeast, north of the Wye.
  5. Detour to I-90 and I-405 via 112th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 8th.

Local access will be maintained to all residential driveways along Bellevue Way Southeast. Emergency access will be maintained.

I-405 to westbound I-90 overnight ramp closures and lane reductions on westbound I-90

What

Work continues on the cast-in-place long span rail bridge over I-90. Crews plan to close all ramps from I-405 to westbound I-90 to advance the 'traveler crane' over I-90. See map below.

When

  • Monday, Jan. 28 (Tuesday morning) Due to inclement weather or unforeseen issues, dates and times are subject to change. This work is scheduled for Jan. 28th but the contractor may shift the work to Tuesday, Jan. 29th (Wednesday morning)

  • Ramp closures: I-405 south to I-90 west HOV ramp, I-405 south to I-90 west general purpose ramp, I-405 north to I-90 west HOV ramp
  • Lane closures: I-90 westbound HOV lane, I-90 westbound left general purpose lane, I-90 westbound right general purpose lane

  • I-405 to I-90 detour: from I-405, drivers should follow detour signs to I-90 east. Exit at 150th Avenue Southeast toward Eastgate Way then proceed to the westbound I-90 exit toward Seattle.
  • Sound Transit's contractor is permitted to work expanded hours in the I-90 corridor and adjacent to Bellevue Way Southeast, including 24-hour work in this area.
  • Plan ahead, leave early and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Lane Reductions and nighttime work on Bellevue Way Southeast

Crews working to build Sound Transit's East Link project in south Bellevue will install the final sets of precast concrete girders during the weeks of Jan. 21 and Jan. 28. Lane and ramp closures will be necessary to safely complete installation of girders, and temporary light plants will be used to illuminate the work area. See map below.

Wednesday, Jan. 23 night closure, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
  • The I-90 east to northbound Bellevue Way Southeast general purpose and HOV ramps will be closed. During this closure, ST Express Route 550 will bypass the northbound stop on Bellevue Way Southeast and detour to Bellevue Way Southeast and 112th Avenue Southeast via I-4-5 and Southeast 8th St. 
  • Bellevue Way Southeast will be reduced to one lane in each direction between I-90 and the 'Y' at 112th Avenue Southeast.
Thursday, Jan. 24 and Monday, Jan. 28 night closure, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
  • Bellevue Way Southeast will be reduced to one lane in each direction between I-90 and the 'Y' at 112th Avenue Southeast. During this closure, transit will continue to serve stops on Bellevue Way Southeast.

  • Wednesday-Thursday, Jan. 22-24 and Monday, Jan. 28, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Precast concrete girders measuring 80-120' long and each weighing up to 205,000 lbs. will be trucked in and lifted into place using large mobile cranes.

Monday-Thursday night (Friday morning) 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.: Night work to construct the long-span bridges over I-90 is expected to continue into mid-2019. Sound Transit's contractor is permitted to work expanded hours in the I-90 corridor and adjacent to Bellevue Way Southeast, including 24-hour work in this area.
