Community and partners help say 'hello' to Pinehurst

Publish Date

Pinehurst Station is officially open! Service began in the early morning hours on opening day, Sept. 30, and by 2 p.m. the celebration was in full swing at the newest addition to the Link system.

Pinehurst is Sound Transit's first infill station and it opened five years ahead of schedule.

Neighbors gathered for a community event with live music, local organizations, sponsors and food. Guests also joined an interactive activity with station artist Romson Bustillo and stopped by the ST Shop merchandise booth.

Fueling the celebration

The celebration was a treat in more ways than one. Zylberschtein's was on site passing out free pastries, and guests enjoyed a sweet bite while taking in the festivities.

The Dick's Drive-In mascots joined the fun too, celebrating alongside everyone and adding even more energy to the afternoon. Between the tasty pastries and the friendly faces, Pinehurst Station felt like a true neighborhood party.

It was a great reminder that a new station is about more than trains, because it also brings people together.

Celebrating the partners behind the project

The Pinehurst opening represents years of hard work and collaboration, and that spirit was on full display throughout the event.

Engineering and project partners including Absher, HNTB, PGH Wong and Jacobs connected with attendees through booths, giveaways, and conversations about the work that made this project possible. From early planning to final construction, their contributions helped bring project to life.

Siemens, another valued partner, was unable to attend, but was there in spirit.

And making sure you get there safely

Lime, a long-time partner of Sound Transit, was on site too, passing out free helmets and teaching guests about the many ways to connect to Pinehurst Station.

Riders learned how bikes and scooters can help cover the first and last mile of a trip, making it easier to get from home, work or school to the station and beyond. It was a great example of how getting around the region does not have to stop at the platform.

ST Shop

The ST Shop pop up was also on hand, giving guests a chance to take a piece of the day home. Shoppers browsed limited edition merchandise from the Pinehurst collection, created to celebrate the opening of the newest station on the Link system. It was a fun way to mark the occasion and show some neighborhood pride. If you missed the pop up, you can still explore the Pinehurst collection at the ST Shop online.

Moving forward, together

This opening opens the door to more access, more opportunity, and more connections for the North Seattle and Shoreline communities we serve. And thanks to the partners, riders, and community members who showed up to celebrate, opening day was just the beginning.
