The Federal Way Link Extension is in the home stretch. For light rail transit that means simulated service, where trains will run their planned schedule without passengers — every eight to 15 minutes depending on the day and time — south of Angle Lake to the Federal Way Downtown Station, stopping at Kent Des Moines and Star Lake stations along the way.
This testing allows the agency to ensure stations, tracks, utilities, escalators, elevators, systems, and vehicles all work together as planned prior to our opening day on Dec. 6.
Riders will still need to exit at Angle Lake Station and use only the northbound track to head to Seattle and Lynnwood.
Want to find schedule information or sign up for project alerts? Check out our new website, which helps people plan for opening day and their upcoming trips on the extension.
The opening day celebration will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. Service to the new stations will begin at 11 a.m.
The three stations on the 7.8-mile extension feature more than 3,000 parking stalls, with new garages at the Kent Des Moines and Star Lake stations, and an addition to the existing Federal Way Transit Center garage. Bike storage is available at all stations.
After the 1 Line extension Federal Way opens and after the World Cup in 2026, ST Express bus service will change to incorporate the new light rail stations. The 2026 Service Plan survey soliciting feedback is open until Nov. 7. Riders are being asked to provide their feedback on proposed changes ST Express service, including a new overnight bus service.
The public can learn more about the 2026 Service Plan here. The webpage and survey are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Tagalog and Russian.
As we get ready to remove the onboard stickers on the trains and reveal the Federal Way Link Extension maps on the 1 Line, stay plugged in to South King Link for updates on opening day celebrations at all the new stations and other events.
