East Link Utility Work Begins at E. Mercer Way

Beginning as early as Monday March 4, crews working for Sound Transit and Puget Sound Energy will begin utility investigations of existing utilities and will install new electrical service for East Link. Work will occur at the intersection of E. Mercer Way and the westbound E. Mercer Way I-90 on-ramp. Crews will use a vacuum truck to locate existing utilities and drill a bored underground trench for new utility lines. Work is anticipated to last approximately two weeks with pavement restoration to occur at a future date.

  • Crews will use a vaccum to truck locate existing utility lines and will drill an underground trench for new utility service. Intermittent noise and vibration may be noticeable.
  • Work will occur at the intersection of E. Mercer Way and the westbound E. Mercer Way I -90 on-ramp. 
  • To safely complete this work, lanes will be closed on E. Mercer Way and the westbound E. Mercer Way I-90 on-ramp. Access to I-90 and SE 35th St. will be maintained.
  • Crews will work in the existing right of way with traffic control in place. Cyclists, pedestrians and drivers should follow the direction of flaggers and signage to safely access your destination.
  • Plan ahead, leave early and allow extra time to reach your destination.
  • Due to inclement weather or unforeseen issues, dates and times are subject to change.

Mercer Island Station Utility Work Begins Along N. Mercer Way

Beginning as early as Monday March 4, crews working for Sound Transit and Puget Sound Energy will begin utility investigations for future utility service for the Mercer Island Station. Crews will locate existing utilities at N. Mercer Way and 77th Ave. SE, along the I-90 trail and along SE 24th St. A vacuum truck will be used to locate existing utilities and will crews will excavate a trench for new utility connections for the station. Work is anticipated to last approximately three weeks with pavement restoration occurring at a future date.

To safely complete this work, traffic will be reduced to one lane and will alternate directions. Pedestrians and cyclists may be detoured and should follow the direction of flaggers and signage to safely access your destination. Sound Transit Express and King County Metro buses will continue to serve the Mercer Island Park-and-Ride.
