What’s happening along SR 520 in north Bellevue and Redmond?

Publish Date

Construction crews building the northeastern end of the East Link extension are removing trees and other vegetation along eastbound SR 520. Crews will be working alongside the freeway for approximately two months.

Tree removal is a necessary first step to construct the light rail guideway and stations. During design we identified as many trees as possible to preserve. Sound Transit worked with WSDOT and the cities of Bellevue and Redmond to determine where and how to replace trees in each jurisdiction. By the end of the project, we will have replanted far more trees than we removed.
