Fifth Street entrance to Puyallup lot closing

Sound Transit’s contractor is gearing up for the start of construction this fall, which will require a small change to parking at Puyallup Station. As early as Aug. 31, our contractor will close the Fifth Street entrance to the parking lot along with several nearby stalls to make way for construction activities. The stalls and entrance will re-open with the garage in 2022.

You’ll still be able to access the remaining stalls in that section from the main lot, and the access road will now serve two-way traffic.

The garage design includes a pedestrian bridge over Fifth Street, connecting riders to the station platform. Stay tuned for updated designs and construction details in our online open house, planned for early October.

Restored trips on Sounder South

Effective Sept. 21, Sounder South weekday service will increase to nine round trips.

Trains will leave Puyallup northbound between 5:03-8:03 a.m., with one afternoon northbound trip at 5:27 p.m. Southbound trains will depart from Seattle’s King Street Station between 3:35-6:30 p.m. A southbound reverse-commute train will leave Seattle at 6:35 a.m. For details, read our new September schedule.

Sounder’s 20th anniversary – share your memories

On September 18, 2000, Sounder had its inaugural run from Tacoma to Seattle, ushering in two decades of reliable and traffic-free commuting for South Sound residents.

While we can’t celebrate in the ways we normally would due to COVID-19, we are planning some giveaways and articles next month, and we’d love to hear your story! Whether you’re a longtime rider, a train newbie, or have only ridden once, send a couple sentences about your memories on Sounder (along with a picture if you have one) to theplatform@soundtransit.org by Sept. 4 for a chance to win a prize.

Red Lot parking remains open this September

In normal years, Sound Transit provides access tickets to our passengers for parking in the Red Lot during the State Fair in September. This year’s Fair has been canceled due to COVID-19, however, meaning Red Lot parking remains available to transit riders, no special tickets needed.

Parking permit reminder

Due to COVID-19, Sound Transit has suspended issuing new parking permits at all park-and-ride lots, including Puyallup. All stalls at Puyallup are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We anticipate resuming new permits and reinstating fees at eligible facilities when a given location regularly fills to 90% or above weekday capacity again.
