Ballard Link Extension
Serving regional jobs, dense neighborhoods

Community Stakeholders and partners

From early 2018 through spring 2019, Sound Transit completed the alternatives development phase of the West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions (WSBLE) project (which were evaluated together) and explored various route and station location options. To help identify preferred alternatives and other alternatives to study in the WSBLE Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Sound Transit worked with a Stakeholder Advisory Group and an Elected Leadership Group. These groups met regularly throughout the alternatives development phase to review technical information and public feedback and provided recommendations to the Sound Transit Board as alternatives moved through the evaluation and screening process.

The Sound Transit Board identified preferred alternatives and other alternatives to study in the WSBLE Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as part of the environmental review phase. The public had an opportunity to provide input on the WSBLE Draft EIS during a public comment period from Jan. 28, 2022 - April 28, 2022.

In addition, Sound Transit formed Community Advisory Groups (CAGs) to provide another forum to share information and to collaborate with community members around issues and tradeoffs. The CAGs were comprised of 10-15 community members that served as ambassadors for their communities and brought forth community values, concerns and ideas prior to and during the WSBLE Draft EIS public comment period. The CAG, along with multiple other engagement efforts provided the public with opportunities to learn about and provide public comment on the WSBLE Draft EIS. The Sound Transit Board  identified a preferred alternative for the WSLE and BLE projects based on the environmental analysis, public and agency comments.
