Day and nighttime bridge scanning begins

Crews working for Sound Transit will begin x-ray scans of the west approach structure and bridge, located above Lakeside Avenue. This work is to prepare for future cathodic protection installation which protects the bridge's steel anchor cables from corrosion.

Work is anticipated to occur during off-peak day and nighttime hours; daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work is anticipated to begin as early as Monday, Feb. 12 and is expected to last for approximately three weeks.

During this time, Lakeside Avenue will be reduced to one lane and traffic will alternate directions. Crews will temporarily close the northbound lane and the southern entrance to Day Street Park – the northern entrance will remain accessible.

What to expect:

  • Work is scheduled to begin as early as Monday, Feb. 12, and lasting for approximately three weeks. Work will occur during off-peak hours, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. (Work hours are subject to change.)
  • Crews using man lifts and x-ray equipment will scan the sides and underside of the Homer M. Hadley Bridge.
  • Construction lighting will be used and will be shielded to minimize ambient light. Broadband back-up alarms will be used during nighttime work to minimize noise.
