Welcome to opening day (and month!)

Three new Link stations open on Oct. 2

Publish Date

Opening day for the new Northgate, Roosevelt and U District Stations will be unlike anything we've done before.

When these new Link light rail stations open on Oct. 2, it won't just be a day for celebrating with our new neighbors in these communities (though of course, we'll be doing that too! Scroll to the bottom of this article or visit our website to learn more about the community activities planned).

This opening is the first of many over the next few years that will bring our region closer together.

Link is a total game changer - providing fast, frequent service and letting passengers fly past traffic.

And we've been planning for a long time to make this opening special. We can't wait to welcome you - not just on Oct. 2, but all month long - to your new stations.

Let's check out some of the fun festivities and take a sneak peek at next weekend!

Each station will have a fun activity for passengers. And these museum-like installations that you see will be up for the whole month of October!

So whether you're planning on catching the very first train southbound from Northgate at 4:51 a.m., or visiting a little bit later than that, the experience will still be here for you.

Don't forget - if you're riding the train or exploring the new stations, masks are required. Check out more safety tips here.

QR codes will help you learn about the public art in the stations - and other fun facts.

If you haven't already, learn more about the artists and how they were inspired by the local neighborhoods when creating their pieces.

Welcome to the 1 Line!

In case you hadn't heard, Link light rail is now the 1 Line.

It's one of the big changes you might notice at these new stations. Speaking of changes, the service change is also taking place on Oct. 2.

Community celebrations

Live music and performances by local bands and cultural groups, outdoor seating, and activities and games for kids and adults alike will greet visitors outside of the station. Thousands of hungry guests can explore the diverse and delicious food offerings in the U District through the inaugural Food Walk with nearly 45 participating businesses, and a beer garden will introduce thirsty 21+ attendees to local breweries.

  • Roosevelt Station Opening Celebration: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2

The Roosevelt Neighborhood Association (RNA) is organizing a fun program of music and entertainment at Roosevelt Station. Look for the RNA Stage at 12th Avenue NE and NE 66th Street. Please take COVID-19 precautions and join Roosevelt neighbors to celebrate new light rail service and exciting new community space.

  • John Lewis Memorial Bridge (Northgate bike/walk bridge) opening day: 10 a.m. to noon

Listen to a series of speakers at the west end of the bridge, followed by a ribbon cutting and community-led walk, roll, and bike ride toward the new station.
