Project overview

King Street Station is a major destination for Sounder riders. The King Street Station Platform Improvements project is studying improvements to increase passenger capacity and improve access at the station, including potential additional stairs, elevators and platform connections. 

In May 2026, the Sound Transit Board adopted an updated ST3 System Plan to bring the agency’s long-term financial outlook into balance. The updated plan includes funding for this project through preliminary engineering.  

If additional funding becomes available, the Sound Transit Board may consider allocating resources to further advance the project.
