Transit accessibility
We believe that transit should be accessible to everyone, which is why we offer a wide range of services to make riding easier.

In-station navigation apps

Phone screen showing Sound Transit station in GoodMaps

Sound Transit uses the GoodMaps app to give passengers guidance on navigating light rail stations. With this app, passengers receive voice, visual, or haptic signal instructions. These instructions guide them to points of interest, like platforms, elevators, and ORCA card readers.

The app uses your phone’s camera to detect location with an accuracy of up to 2 inches. It then delivers directions via the app. This provides blind and low-vision passengers, as well as those with mobility needs, instructions to a station landmark.

Features

  • Assistive technology: GoodMaps is fully compatible with Apple’s VoiceOver and Android’s TalkBack screen readers.
  • Braille input and output: Android users can use the TalkBack braille keyboard to enter information into the app. While the app focuses on audio and haptic feedback, it supports standard iOS and Android accessibility settings that enable braille output.
  • Information to help your ride: Rider alerts and arrival times are updated in real-time within the app.
  • Accessibility settings: Passengers can adjust font scaling or switch to high contrast mode.

Passengers can use GoodMaps at the stations below. Station layout maps are also offered to help passengers prepare for their journey.
