Fare suspension: Starting on Saturday, March 21 Sound Transit will suspend fare requirements on buses and trains until further notice to help protect transit employees and riders through social distancing.
In addition, ST Express passengers other than riders using mobility devices or the boarding ramp will board and exit buses through rear doors whenever possible. Front areas of buses will be limited to these passengers, increasing separation from operators whose dedication enables Sound Transit to continue service during the COVID-19 crisis.
Service reduction: As our region responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are reducing Link, Sounder and some ST Express service beginning Monday, March 23 until further notice. This shift comes two days after our pre-scheduled Spring Service Change that will still occur on Saturday, March 21.
Read our Platform blog post for the latest information on how Sound Transit is responding to heightened COVID-19 concerns.
Ridership has dropped dramatically since the emergence of COVID-19, as riders have done the right thing by staying home as much as possible. We are reducing service to a level that provides essential mobility for groceries, medical appointments or other essential travel, while also providing enough vehicles to enable riders to maintain social distancing. These reductions will keep our system strong and resilient, ready to bounce back once the governor indicates it is safe to ease social and business restrictions.
Under the temporary Reduced Schedule, Link light rail will continue to run every 14 minutes. We are suspending five Sounder South round trips and two Sounder North round trips. We are also reducing service on some ST Express Routes
